If you are selling images online and your portfolio has achieved a significant size, you are probably able to make a living from online image sales. Then you don’t have to work every day, but it is important to keep your portfolio alive. A customer will buy your photo only once, so definitely you need to add new images in order to keep making money. If buyers like your work, they might come back to see if you added something new to your portfolio. Some sites, like Shutterstock, give customers a possibility to follow your portfolio, so you can see how many people are really interested in what you are doing.
All sites offer an option to sort images by date (newest first), so you have more chances to have a sale if you add fresh content regularly. Shutterstock also seem to give a priority to new images in search positioning. When you perform a keyword search and sort by popularity, newer images seem to have a priority over older ones.
But “regularly” doesn’t mean “every day”. Actually the beauty of this business – selling images online – is that even if you stop adding new content for a while, people keep buying your photos, and you keep making money. And this is the joy of passive income! Of course if you stop for one month, you will notice a decline in earnings. But you don’t have to work every day. Just enough to keep it alive. Although if you do work every day and your portfolio is growing fast, for sure you will be rewarded by faster growing earnings.
