Use "color of the year" in your photos

Every year the Pantone Color Institute declares a particular color “Color of the Year”. Twice a year the company hosts a secret meeting of representatives from various nations’ color standards groups. After two days of presentations and debate they choose a color for the following year. When the color of the upcoming year is revealed, fashion and interior designers, florists, and many other consumer-oriented companies use it to help guide their designs and plan for future products.

As a stock photographers or illustrator, you can take advantage of this trend and include the color of the year in your photos and illustrations. And make sure to include the correct name of the color into the keywords list.

In 2016 two shades were chosen as the color of the year – Rose Quartz and Serenity. One of my fellow photographers created a composition which featured these two colors and included the keywords “quartz” and “serenity” into the list of keywords. The image was sold on Shutterstock and used in an article about Pantone colors of the year:

The color of year 2017 is Greenery – a refreshing and revitalizing shade which is symbolic of new beginnings.
